How the State Committee fits into the party structure

The State Committee is the governing body for the DPG, working to elect Democrats across federal, state, and local levels. This top-down structure, which includes local County Committees that elect state members, works to promote party development, recruit candidates, and support Democratic nominees throughout Georgia

Key roles of DPG State Committee members

  • Elect party leadership: State Committee members elect the top officers of the party, such as the DPG Chair and other statewide officers. In 2023, members elected leaders for the current four-year term.

  • Serve as a link between local and state parties: As representatives elected by their respective County Committees, state members ensure that local Democrats have a voice in the state-level electoral process.

  • Influence the party platform: The DPG platform reflects the party's values and guides its work in improving the lives of Georgians. State Committee members participate in the process of shaping this platform.

Selection of State Committee members

State Committee members are not elected directly by the public but are chosen by their local County Committees. The DPG's charter and bylaws outline the specific methods for these elections.
